Spirituality and marriage are deeply connected, as both involve love, growth, and a shared journey toward deeper understanding. For couples at any phase of their relationship, it’s essential to contemplate their spiritual connection, which nurtures lasting physical and emotional attraction. We speak with Tammy Adams, an intuitive healer and shaman, to help couples embark on and maintain their spiritual journey together.

SB: Tell us about what a spiritual guide or shaman is.

A shaman is a spiritual person with a profound understanding of the human body, medicinal herbs, and the art of spiritual healing. As a Life Purpose and Intuitive Shaman, I have the unique ability to see the paths each individual is meant to walk—and I dedicate myself to guiding them toward the highest one for success, fulfillment, and love. I have been blessed to touch countless lives, working with and guiding some of the world’s most influential leaders, including Pope John Paul II, Mother Teresa, and the Dalai Lama, alongside esteemed political figures, celebrities, and top corporate executives.

Gifted with the ability to communicate with God, I help others find their true purpose. Born with the rare gift to see across all dimensions, maintain open communication with spiritual beings, and facilitate healing, I work in perfect harmony—always guided by angels.

Meditation is my sacred tool, my vehicle for transformation, and the channel through which my work unfolds. A Shaman is someone in tune spiritually and guiding light in human form from the source.

SB: How can a couple spiritually prepare for marriage?

Matrimony itself is a sacrament, but all of the sacraments working together serve to bind us closer to God. And yet, how often do couples enter marriage unprepared—spiritually, emotionally, and energetically? A couple can spiritually prepare for marriage by attending Confession before their wedding day. But do they? Or do they rush into vows, carrying burdens of the past that weigh them down? Try to go once a month throughout the course of your engagement—cleanse your soul before you say, “I do”.

I also suggest setting aside time to pray both together and a lot of prayer and meditation alone. Prayer and meditation are the bridge to a strong spiritual foundation for your marriage. Without it, love weakens, intentions waver, and connection fades. Prayer and meditation will bind you together spiritually as you grow in love and service toward one another.

And what about your marital mission? Have you truly discussed what you both want spiritually out of marriage, or are you assuming you’re on the same path—only to find out later that your visions are drastically different? Couples should outline and visualize together the milestones they see in their future, discussing in depth what those milestones actually look like when they arrive. Far too often, couples share the same goals but completely different visions of the outcome—whether in faith, finances, or family.

Spiritual preparation isn’t just an option—it’s a necessity prior to marriage. That’s why I offer premarital coaching, life coaching, and spiritual relationship coaching to help couples build a lasting foundation. I have watched countless successful marriages grow over the years because they took this step.

SB: Are there any spiritual rituals a couple should consider during the ceremony?

I also strongly urge couples to do spiritual grounding and retreats—separately—before marriage. Why? Because entering a marriage hall expecting your partner to complete you spiritually is a dangerous mistake. It leads to unhappiness, imbalance, and a slow depletion of energetic resources between you both. This is why I hold life-purpose retreats like the one I am hosting in Sun Valley, Idaho August 4-6th. It’s not just a retreat—it’s a transformation.
Before you say, “I do”, make sure your soul is ready.

One of the most beautiful ways to strengthen your spiritual and emotional connection before marriage is through monthly love letters. Writing to each other allows you to express deep emotions, share dreams, and reinforce your commitment—turning your love into something tangible and timeless. This simple yet powerful ritual builds intimacy and sets a foundation of heartfelt communication that carries into your marriage.

Beyond love letters, visualizing your future together is a key to manifesting a strong and lasting bond. Create lists of your future children’s names, design your dream home in detail, or map out the lifestyle you envision together. These exercises aren’t just fun—they align your energy and intentions, making your dreams feel real and attainable.

I suggest a prayer and a free meditation I offer before the ceremony as well as breathwork. Whether you pray to God or the universe or set intentions, dedicating time with your partner to pray is an unmatched spiritual connection path. Use this time to discuss what you’re thankful for post-prayer and what you expect from prayers to ensure you remain on the same spiritual journey. By meditating, this allows us to be mindful and be fully present and engaged during the ceremony. Breathwork is also crucial for couples before the wedding ceremony as a grounding exercise that calms the mind and strengthens the bond between you. Breath is life, and when synchronized and shared with a person with whom you have a romantic connection, you breathe life into and out of one another.

Marriage isn’t just about love—it’s about actively creating the future you both desire. Start now, write it down, breathe together, pray together, and watch it unfold.

SB: How can spirituality help us navigate conflicts in marriage?

Being spiritually in tune has an elevating effect, encouraging respect, compassion, and love toward others. It allows us to approach conflicts from a higher perspective and navigate them with grace. However, reaching this level of spiritual alignment requires inner work—through meditation and mindfulness. That journey becomes more challenging when one partner is committed to spiritual growth while the other is not. Though difficult, it’s not a lost cause. Couples who actively explore their spirituality together—through counseling, relaxation, reflection, and releasing negativity—tend to be more patient, understanding, and quick to find resolution in conflicts.

To deepen your spiritual connection, I encourage practicing positive affirmations together. Hold hands as you affirm your love and intentions for the future. Keep your words uplifting, such as:

● “We will grow stronger every day”
● “I will always love you deeply”

By reinforcing love and setting shared intentions, you create a foundation of trust, harmony, and spiritual unity in your relationship.

SB: What is the best way to maintain harmony and balance in a marriage and the demands of life?

I always recommend couples prioritize their connection by setting clear boundaries, practicing disciplined time management, engaging in honest and open communication, making space for shared experiences and supporting each other’s personal growth and well-being.

One simple way to keep your relationship aligned is through nature walks—an opportunity to stay centered, breathe in fresh air, and deepen your energetic bond with each other and the rhythms of the earth. A nature walk can also be a moment to lean against a tree, reflect, and share cherished memories—allowing nature’s energy to reinforce your sacred connection.

However, external influences can be like sharp daggers, piercing holes into your relationship that only you and your partner are left to mend. Not every invitation should be accepted, and not every opinion should be absorbed. If your partner is hesitant to see your mother-in-law tonight because of past emotional wounds, how do you respond?

I train my clients to hold spiritual space for each other, ensuring they both feel protected and honored in their union. This means standing together as a united force, even in the presence of family and friends, without falling into defensive or combative energy. The key is always returning to home base—each other—at the end of the day.

Through structured practices, I guide couples in deepening their spiritual foundation, beginning with daily meditation and intentional future planning. Once these habits are ingrained, we move into advanced techniques that fortify their connection for a lifetime.

SB: How can a couple grow spiritually after marriage?

A couple can grow spiritually after marriage by fostering love, respect, and deep emotional connection through intentional practices that nurture both the soul and the relationship. Prioritizing active listening strengthens understanding, while incorporating rituals like pausing fights to share a meal or a hug—using a code word like “Fight Pause” to momentarily reset—ensures that even in conflict, spiritual connection remains intact.

One of my favorite exercises for engaged couples is planning their 5th wedding anniversary. Why? Because when you plan something in detail—where you will be, what you’ll be doing, how you will celebrate—you’re not just imagining it; you’re creating the belief that it will happen. This mental and spiritual practice solidifies your long-term commitment and helps couples navigate the common challenges of the early years. Each year, revisit and refine your 5-year anniversary vision based on how life unfolds. Adjust your goals, upgrade your dreams, and allow your plan to evolve with you. The magic is in setting the intention and believing in the journey together through spiritual healing.

Scheduling regular date nights, supporting each other’s goals and friendships, and respecting alone time cultivate balance, while engaging in shared hobbies beyond spiritual practices—such as sports or group activities with like-minded couples—infuses joy into the relationship. Fun and laughter enhance spiritual intimacy, making space for deeper emotional bonds. By integrating these practices, couples create a marriage that is not only spiritually rich but also resilient, joyful, and deeply connected.

SB: Past lives – does it serve a purpose to know our past lives and what is the process of learning about them?

Past lives serve a purpose because they are necessary in discovering your life purpose. By looking to see what was fulfilling to you before, or what you have learned or done. You can also look at the mistakes you have made, before in a past life. When you start to see your journey as a bigger picture and open the curtain on the window to see that there has been a journey over many lifetimes, that helps your life purpose come more into focus. Some ways to understand our past lives include meditation, journaling about recurring dreams, using guided recordings, connecting with your consciousness or having a session with a trained therapist. Through my guided meditations, I help others be open to whatever comes your way in life. You don’t have to
believe that you’ve existed before in order to access past lives for healing and resolve issues you have today.

SB: What is your definition of a soul mate and does everyone indeed have one?

I believe part of life’s purpose is connecting with your Soulmate. I teach people the true meaning of a Soulmate, not the modern-day explanation, but the original message of what a Soulmate is through my spiritual retreats. This is one of my favorite topics to speak about. Soulmates were with us from the very beginning of time, from the very first life that you have ever had. So, the very first time you were created, our God, our Creator, made and matched specifically for you. This mate is to help you be happy living a life of fulfillment, being there for one another unconditionally with no strings attached, and complete passion and understanding of one another. A soulmate is someone who is meant to be with us forever, time after time, life after life. Not every life that we live has a soulmate in it. It is up to us to show the effort and be aware. Then as we become aware, act on it and actually accept and welcome that love in our lives instead of living in fear or being afraid to trust or love someone. Too many of us stop ourselves from having happiness because of her childhood, or because of the relationships that we have had in our lives. Life is about having happiness. I talk about soulmates on my podcast The
Karma Talk Show and how to start manifesting true love and connection. I truly believe that everyone can find a soulmate but not every life that we live has a soulmate in it. It is up to us to show the effort and be aware.

SB: Is there a reason why some people never find the love of their lives?

Confidence and self-esteem play a crucial role in love, as many struggle to find meaningful connections simply because they don’t feel worthy of receiving love. In a world where so much interaction happens behind screens, the natural exchange of energy that fosters deep connection is often lost. Love is more than just an emotion—it’s an energy, a shared spiritual bond that thrives in real-life interactions. While it can be challenging to step outside of the digital bubble, making an effort to meet people in person is essential for building genuine relationships. Technology may offer convenience, but true connection requires presence, authenticity, and shared experiences that can’t be replicated through a screen. By embracing real-world interactions, individuals create space for love to flourish in its most authentic form.

SB: When/how should we start teaching our children about spirituality?

Spirituality can be nurtured from birth, as infants and toddlers are naturally attuned to energy and the world around them. By incorporating simple spiritual practices early—such as gentle prayers, meditation, or sound bowls—parents can create a foundation that helps children remain aligned and connected. Teaching them that all life is intertwined, that a towering tree holds no more value than a budding flower, instills a sense of unity and respect for the world.
When introduced as a natural part of life, spirituality becomes an intrinsic belief rather than something learned later through external influences. Encouraging mindfulness, reflection, and prayer further strengthens their connection to something greater while fostering a sense of belonging. By guiding children early, parents help shape a lifelong spiritual awareness rooted in love, harmony and purpose.
