The First Encounter
While living in Will’s hometown of Memphis, Tennessee, we planned a trip to visit my family in San Francisco. Will told me he had a hike planned for early Saturday morning, just in time to watch the sun rise over the Golden Gate Bridge. After hiking down the makeshift stairs, casually stopping to take pictures of the beautiful city, we started walking on the beach, enjoying the fresh San Francisco Bay air and peaceful Pacific Ocean. After dipping my toes in the ice cold water, I turned around to find Will on one knee. I could barely say “YES,” before I saw BOTH of our families running down the same path we had just taken with happy tears, smiles and of course champagne!
In Preparation
From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank our beautiful and gracious mothers, who took our desires, ideas and vision to create our dream wedding. Gail Brumley and Beth Skudder, along with our incredible wedding planner, Katherine Benson of Bella Baxter Events, worked tirelessly to make our vision come to life. When I was asked how we envisioned our wedding guests’ reactions as they entered the ceremony, I said, “I want our guests to have a ‘gasp’ moment and see that every detail is a true reflection of Will and me.” We wanted everything from the delicious food, libations, flowers and décor to reflect California and Tennessee. Wedding favors would be donations to the International Myeloma Foundation and Wings at the West Cancer Center, on behalf of loved ones who have battled cancer.
The Big Day
We wanted to captivate the best of both worlds and create the perfect combination of Dreamy California and Southern Gentleman. The amazing California spring weather, coupled with a picturesque winery, made the wedding day truly memorable. Will’s uncle, Dr. Brad Adkins, served as the officiant and our maternal grandmothers’ stole the show as the cutest “Flower-Grams” ever! Small vases of rosebuds and Sweet William flowers held each guests escort card and my bridal bouquet was created by my mother, which included a family Bible and lace from her mother’s wedding gown. While our guests enjoyed cocktail hour, with a whimsical string quartet music, we snuck away for intimate sunset photos. After loving and hilarious toasts were made, dinner enjoyed, lively dancing and late night snacks, our guests departed at midnight, with warm hearts and great memories.
The Retreat
From California, we flew to the beautiful island of St. Lucia. After an exhausting, however wonderful year of cross country wedding planning, soaking up the sun was #1 on our list. The week was spent enjoying the beautiful beaches, relaxing atmosphere, gorgeous scenery and of course umbrella drinks. It was completely magical and allowed time for us to reflect on our incredible wedding week, celebrating with our closest friends and family. The amount of love, support and prayers we received from our loved ones was the most special gift of all.
